Blending essential oils is genuinely fun once you understand the concept of scent notes. Every good blend is built on three layers — base notes (deep, long-lasting scents like sandalwood, vetiver, cedarwood, or patchouli), middle notes (the heart of the blend — lavender, geranium, rosemary, ylang ylang), and top notes (fresh first impressions — lemon, peppermint, bergamot, eucalyptus). Start by adding 1–3 drops of your chosen base note to a small glass bottle, then add 2–4 drops of a middle note, and finally 2–3 drops of a top note. Mix all into your carrier oil at a 2% dilution — that’s about 20 drops total of essential oils in a 50ml bottle of carrier oil. Smell on a cotton ball immediately, then again after an hour to experience how the blend evolves.
