Peppermint essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the mint, Mentha piperita. A naturally occurring hybrid mint (watermint x spearmint), it is now cultivated worldwide, but most prominently in Yakima, Washington, U.S.A.. In the fertile Yakima Valley, the city of Yakima is known for its’ wineries and apple orchards, of which supply hundreds of antique and premier apple varieties. Consequently, the peppermint cultivated there is of the highest grade and most sought after in the industry. Peppermint essential oil provides a cooling sensation when applied topically, due to its’ menthol content. As such, it can be used in blends for muscle aches and pains, as well as to help ease headaches. Known to be an aphrodisiac, one should avoid use before going to sleep.

Presence of dimethly sulfide is not suitable in food products as it affects shelf life. Rectification removes dimethyl sulfide and it makes this oil suitable for food products. In our experience, regular peppermint has slight yellow tint, rectification results in colorless liquid.
